3 Beautiful Mountain Lakes
Lake Turracher See is the largest of the three lakes, 33m deep at its deepest point, and frozen over for almost six months of the year.
It's frozen so solidly in winter that skiers, cross country skiers and hikers bustle about on the lake. The lake is situated between the border of the district of Carinthia and Styria.
A hotelier had a very special idea: he opened the Alps' first heated lake pool, at a swim-friendly size of 25 x 10 meters. The pool contains only lake water, which is heated to 30 degrees by a specially designed system.
The mountain range of the Nockberge surround two more lakes - the Grünsee and the Schwarzsee which define the landscape in this area and as a nature reserve there is no building development planned in the near future.
